Operated as a joint venture between the California Science Center and the LAUSD, the Alexander Science Center School has the distinct privilege of being sited between world class science museums, and University of Southern California (USC) The school features an integrated curriculum emphasizing science, mathematics and the use of technology, and this is reflected in the architecture. The planted roof on the north building reduces heat load thereby reducing demand on the mechanical systems. The siting of the building below the established grade and with the protection of a large planted berm on Exposition Blvd. protects the lower level of the structure from intense sun exposure.
