Only in Los Angeles will you find a high school located entirely within a traffic island. Bounded on all sides by two major streets in the historic Filipinotown neighbourhood, the complex attempts to recover a piece of land found undesirable by most developers. The plan is snake-like, undulating within the confined space. Perforated screens enclose most of the skin, further separating the classrooms from the nearby street. These screens are painted yellow and grey in a pattern that uses more yellow along the convex curves and less where they are concave, to give further emphasis.
