Located in the extension of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC), the library occupies a vast 10,000m2 area on a single level dominated by a huge square head devised by the sculptor Sacha Sosno. The Square Head is a monumental sculpture 30 meters high. It consists of a cube of 14 m square housing the offices of the Louis Nucera library. To convert this small "square head" of the famous Sacha Sosno sculpture into a huge library was an incredible challenge. It required a variety of trials before selecting the pattern to achieve a close copy of the original. The perforation needed to be as transparent as possible from the inside but appear opaque from the outside. Two criteria which in principle are contradictory.
