The major constraints on this project, its steep site compressed between existing buildings together with limited allowance for development, have shaped its form. It is inserted into the earth with two covered parking spaces on the front-end where a small staircase leads up to the first floor living spaces and second floor bedrooms. Due to the limited available floor area, the staircase and circulation had to be conceived to save space. This led to an open organisation of the first floor: the cooking, eating and living spaces are positioned around the circulation core. The staircase and built-in storage, oven and services cavity divide and connect simultaneously. On the second floor, the single sleeping rooms are connected to each other through short, efficient passages. Given the prominent location of the south-facing site overlooking the Dolomites, the facade was opened up as much as possible in order to widen-up the tight interiors.
