Joaquim Bento d'Almeida and Victor Palla, connected to the Modern Movement, were responsible for over 700 projects in Portugal. They modernized barber shops, bank offices, residences, hotels, schools and factories. But, they are perhaps the most known for introducing the American diner into Portugal. One of these diners, or actually called snackbars, is Galeto in Lisbon. Restaurant / snack-bar Galeto opened its doors July 30th 1966 and was considered a fine example of modernity at that time. The design of the façade and interior were something completely new for the Portuguese. Also the painted panel above the door is an example of Modern Movement on display. One of the things that makes it a popular spot for food nowadays is it's opening hours: Galeto is opened for almost 24 hours a day. You can go there for a steak at midnight. The interior has a resemblance to the typical American diner.
