Peter Tábori, Camden Council Architect's Department

location London
function social housing
contributed by davidb

Hungarian born Peter Tábori was one of the "Camden Crew", assembled under the leadership of Sydney Cook, who was Borough Architect of Camden from 1965 to 1973. Cook was responsible for encouraging some of the pioneering social housing built in London at that time including Alexander Road and Branch Hill. Other members of the crew were Neave Brown and Benson & Forsyth. Tábori also worked for both Erno Goldfinger and Denys Lasdun. Oakshott Court sits on a square site between Euston and St Pancras stations. The brick-clad in-situ concrete structure is arranged in an "L" shape around two edges, with all the 114 flats and maisonettes, of varying sizes, enjoying a south or westerly prospect over a grassed court. Accommodation is arranged on three inter-connected levels, separated by two walkways and terraces up towards the outer edges to make room for parking underneath.
